If the child is experiencing coughing or wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness or difficulty breathing, we will adhere to the following protocol:
a staff member will stay with the child at all times
the child will be kept sitting upright and encouraged to take slow, deep breaths
the medication indicated on the Asthma Action Plan will be given
simultaneously, the parent or emergency contact will be called
if the medication doesn’t take effect, staff will proceed to the Red Zone
