In order to maximize safety while administering medication, all of our staff are trained in the correct administration of medication:
When possible, medication is administered to the child in a setting that is quiet and comfortable to minimize distractions.
The teacher administering the medication washes their hands before and after administering the medication.
We practice the 5 RIGHTS OF MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION. Before any medication is given, the teacher first checks that it’s the
RIGHT MEDICATION
RIGHT CHILD
RIGHT TIME
RIGHT DOSE
RIGHT ROUTE.
Each time a medication is administered, the teacher will document in the child’s record the name, dosage, time, and method of administration, and who administered the medication.
If for some reason medication is administered more than 30 minutes before or after identified dosage time, you will be notified via the log and must initial.
In the unlikely event a dose is missed, you will be notified by phone.
