The month of June was filled with science and lots of exploration! At the start of the month, we took a very close look at bugs! Our friends were equally scared and fascinated by the night crawler worms that were brought in to study. For a week, the worms were placed in buckets and inspected by the kids with a variety of tools. They drew what they observed the worms doing, and were able to see them act in different conditions. The kids were captivated when they saw that wetting the dirt caused the worms to move to the surface. We were very impressed by the little scientists we saw during this unit! Another exciting moment this month was watching our caterpillars’ lifecycle. The kids watched the caterpillars complete their lifecycle and become butterflies. We observed the caterpillars and made our very own out of modeling clay. Our friends learned about the process that it takes for a caterpillar to turn into a butterfly. The highlight of the month was when the kids got to release the butterflies that they watched grow. They were very excited when the butterflies would visit the playground afterwards.
The babies love when we read and sing to them; they pause in their play, smiling, cooing, and babbling with excitement. Here are some of the books we read and songs we sang about animals:

Good Night Moon Over Miami
Clifford the Big Reddish (well more like brownish) Dog
Curious George Has a Meltdown

Old MacDonald's Farm Went into Foreclosure
Animals at the Zoo Listen to Podcasts
Five Green Speckled Toasters

In July we are going Around the World with Music and Movement! We are excited to discover the music of other countries as we shake our instruments along to the beat, read books and sing songs in other languages, and see the many beautiful pictures of traditional colors, clothes, people, and flags in our foam cubes and mat.

This month we said goodbye to Sally, who transitioned to the Toddler Three classroom. We also welcomed Ben and Jerry who joined us from Toddler One.

We hope to start water play soon so please bring in bathing suits, water shoes, and sun hats and remember to apply sunscreen in the morning.
Happy 1st Birthday to Cameron!!
